Big Sunday happily welcomes you to Our Really Big Community Calendar

We try to include all kinds of volunteering and helping opportunities for all kinds of interests, talents, passions, and ages! As you’ll see, these include volunteering opportunities (one-time and long-term) as well as the chance to support a nonprofit by attending fundraising events. Plus, of course, we include all of Big Sunday’s homegrown events, too! Whoever you are, and whatever you do, there is someone out there who could use your help.

If you have questions about our calendar, or would like to add a listing, please contact calendar@bigsunday.org or submit your event/opportunity via the button below.

UnlitterLA Walk

6 UnlitterLA Routes | 60 Volunteers

Pilot cleanup in conjunction with L.A. Sanitation Dept's Earth Day Event

We will be shaking out our UnlitterLA concept of simultaneously cleaning multiple walking routes. Teams of 6-10 volunteers will each walk an approximate 4-mile route, picking up litter from sidewalks, gutters, and fences. Your help and feedback will be key to our large-scale event.

Each route starts and ends at one of three LA Metro Orange Line express bus stations – Woodley, Balboa, and Sepulveda. Kicking off with a morning briefing and distribution of any needed supplies (bags, gloves, grabbers, maps, etc), volunteers head out to clean their routes. Afterward, volunteers can enjoy the Earth Day event in the park!

Check in at 8AM, cleanup concludes around 1PM, Earth Day event runs til 2PM with free food/drink (while supplies last), 50+ exhibit booths, and fun stuff for the entire family. Volunteers can sign up (and learn more) at http://bit.ly/UnlitterLApilot

More info about the City's Earth Day event can be found at: L.A. City Sanitation's Earth Day LA

2019 New Direction for Veterans 5K Run/Walk
May 18 @ 6:00 am – 12:00 pm

NDVets is proud to present the 9th Annual NDVets 5K Run/Walk. New Directions for Veterans (NDVets) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to empower formerly homeless men and women who served in the military, and their families, to lead productive and fulfilling lives. Join NDVets and honor our nation’s heroes at the NDVets 5k Run/Walk on Saturday, May 18th 2019. This is a family friendly 5K that offers a safe course throughout the West LA VA campus for both runners and walkers at all levels. Since 1992, NDVets has provided thousands of veterans in Los Angeles County with comprehensive services, including permanent and transitional housing, job training and assistance, substance abuse treatment, and parenting and money management classes. More than 1,800 veterans seek assistance from the organization each year. Through your participation in this 5K Run/Walk you will help raise much needed funding to continue to offer the life-saving services for veterans who need the support of their communities when they return home.

Pasadena Community Beautification @ Families Forward Learning Center
Aug 31 @ 9:00 am – 11:00 am

We need a few good volunteers to help clean up our neighborhood and our organization!
As our school year is about to start, we want to have a clean and welcoming environment for our families to come and feel safe in.

Opportunities on this day will include:
– a walk-around community clean up, where volunteers will pick up trash off the street and in local parks to make sure our surrounding streets are clean!
– a thorough clean up of our organization, to help prepare us for a great school year (may include cleaning windows, tables, chairs, shredding papers, etc)
– preparing materials for preschool classroom projects
– clearing an area for a new garden on site

If you are interested in making a difference in your community and ensuring a preschool that serves low-income families has the strong support of our neighbors and friends, please consider dropping by for an hour or two to help set us up for a year of success!

ALL AGES ARE WELCOME!
